Meet Suze Ford. Suze is the awesome artist behind Suze Ford Fine Art. Her paintings are amazing and I can’t get over all the color she uses! This is why she is significant.
Why did you decide to start your business?
I have been painting all of my life. So, it was pretty much a life time dream and goal to make a living at it. After getting my degree in art I didn’t quite understand the magnitude of how difficult it would be to show and sell my work professionally. It took me a few years to figure out how to make it happen. My business was established when I began showing and selling my work through art fairs. It was an awesome way for me to begin working seriously on a body of work. I also have met amazing supportive people all over the country.
What is a typical day in your life?
This question makes me laugh! The only reason why is because I have 2 small children. So, anyone who is a parent knows you sort of have to be ready for anything!
However, my day consists of waking up and getting myself and the girls ready for the day. Once they are settled I make myself a cup of coffee and I head into my studio. I try to make this morning time for creativity and painting. Sometimes I have to answer some emails and tend to business. But, I try to keep as much of those business tasks as I can separated into the second part of my day.
When it is lunch time I eat with my girls. After lunch I handle everything else that is involved in my business. I do a lot of commission work for my clients. So, a good part of my day is spent in communications and updates with them. I also have to shoot and edit images of my work in this part of my day. The office and studio work continues until dinner time.
When it is dinner time I spend quality time with my family. We do normal family activities together.
What is the biggest hurdle you’ve faced so far?
Biggest hurdle by far is balancing being a parent and running a business. I sincerely love both parts of my life. I could not see my life with out both parts. So, each day I manage my time the best I can trying to be present in what ever moment I am in.
Any awesome projects in the works?
One project that I am really excited about is a show I am in with a an awesome artist and friend Jenny McCall, at the Leedy Voulkos Art Center in Kansas City. The gallery space is huge, and will give us a lot of creative freedom to paint large scale works. Painting huge pieces is my passion, and where I feel like I can fully express myself. So, I can’t wait to get started on the new work for this show.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Free time is family time. I love more than anything the time I get to spend with them. I also try to meet fellow artists and friends for coffee and lunches. It is good for me to get out of my bubble and connect with people. This doesn’t happen often. But, this time is treasured.
And most importantly, what’s your favorite color?
